Margot Haynes – ROAD Co-Chair
Raised in Nashville, TN, Margot moved to Okemos, MI in 1957(near E. Lansing). She spent summers 1962-present in the White Lake Community, retiring here with husband Bruce Froelich in 2010. Her heart is with Lake Michigan. Preserving our common good, this beautiful environment, has stirred much of the activism in her life, as well as inspirational models Nelson Mandela and Daniel Ellsberg.
Education:
B.A. French Mount Holyoke College 1969
MA in Teaching French and English, Johns Hopkins University 1972
Taught French and English in Taiwan 1972-78
MA in Linguistics/ESL Southern Illinois University 1980
Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Arts and Letters: Psychology, Linguistics, and English (Comparative Reading) MSU 1989
Full-time at Delta College as Associate Professor of English 1988-2010
Two children, Erin and Sherwood Wang, and three step-children, David Froelich, Ashleigh Jones, and Courtney Hart.
Her numerous current activities, include:
–Chair of ROAD 2016-present;
–Member since 2010 at Harbor Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Muskegon, Endowment Committee member, Social Action Team member, Caring Team Chair (2014-18), and Religious Education teacher;
–Mentor and coordinator for other mentors in Muskegon Heights MLK elementary school, working with 2nd and 3rd graders; active member of Progressive Democratic Women’s Caucus of Muskegon; serves on Committee for Friends of the Montague Library summer book talks and One Book One Committee yearly event; Board Member for White Lake Chamber Music Society; drives for American Red Cross Senior Transport on a weekly basis;
–Active participant in political campaigns and two non-partisan petition drives, Overturning the Emergency Manager Law 2011-12 and Voters Not Politicans (anti-gerrymandering) 2017-18;
–serves as AARP Volunteer Legislative Advocate 2010-present
